Former Arsenal striker urges Mikel Arteta to sign £38.5m star

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has urged Mikel Arteta to sign Sevilla and Morocco ace Youssef En-Nesyri to replace Alexandre Lacazette.

French forward Lacazette will be out of contract at the end of the season and has not been offered a new deal, with Arteta willing to sanction his departure from the Emirates.

Arsenal have been linked with moves for England duo Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ollie Watkins as they prepare to replace Lacazette, and recent reports claim the Premier League have also scouted Moroccan star En-Nesyri.

En-Nesyri, 24, has thrived for Spanish side Sevilla over the past two seasons, scoring 24 goals last term and netting three goals in six games so far during the 2021-22 campaign.

The striker has represented Morocco on 40 occasions – scoring 11 goals for his country and helping the team reach the knockout stages of the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019.

Ex-Arsenal striker Campbell has been impressed by En-Nesyri’s development and says he would ‘definitely’ strengthen Arteta’s attacking options in north London.

Asked about the Arsenal transfer target, who Sevilla reportedly value at €45m, Campbell told the Highbury Squad podcast: ‘Good player, really good.

‘For me, he would definitely come in and carry a threat. I will tell you that much.

‘He will carry a threat top end of the pitch. He has good size, speed, knows where the goal is, he is skilful too.’

After a dismal start to the season, Arsenal improved before the international break to climb to 11th in the Premier League, four points outside of the top-four places.

On Monday, Arteta’s side travel across London to face Crystal Palace, who have taken seven points from their first seven games under Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira.
